Royton Town Under 18's 6 Bury Juniors 0

John Barratt, 8 February 2010 10:11

Royton Town Youth comfortably progressed to the quarter final of the Maher Cup with an impressive 6 v 0 victory over Bury Juniors.

Town began the game with centre forward Jamie Summers in goal (bravely volunteering) and Mike Tierney making his full debut on the left.

Starting brightly, Royton took the game to Bury with Aaron Buczko having a couple of attempts and Andy Hildrup striking the bar.

Royton took the lead on 18 minutes after good work from Ben Ashworth led to JOSH FISH arriving late at the far post to squeeze the ball home from a tight angle.
A minute later Town were two ahead following a great run and drive from the influentila AARON BUCZKO.

Bury's keeper was providing heroics in the Bury goal, and with Summers a virtual spectator, it was hard to believe that Royton didn;t add to their tally in the first half.

Further pressure saw Royton creating numerous chances, Danny Booth going close when striking the woodwork.

However, it was 70 minutes before Royton added a third, and it was substitute JORDAN MACNAMARA who provided it with a sweet left foot drive.

The third goal was the signal for manager Leeming to bring Summers out of goal and replace him with the hard working Tom Ogden.

DANNY BOOTH added the fourth for Town with an elegant left foot curler into the top corner and JAMIE SUMMERS got his reward for his patience when he added the fifth.

The impressive left back ANDY HILDRUP popped up in the box to head home Royton's sixth and final goal.

A fine all round performance, watched and admired by a good following of family and club members.

The defence were largely untroubled, Schofield and Rowbotham cool and collected on the ball with Ste Haynes aggresive at right back and Hildrup collecting the MOM allocade.

Lamb & Buzcko were dominant in the middle of the park with Fish and McNamara providing excellant width.

Ashworth was industrious up front and involved in a lot of Roytons good chances, whilst Booth never fails to find the room for opportunities.

Tierney was unfortunate to come off early with a leg strain, but he has shown early signs of promise with some nice footwork.

Managers Leeming and Wild have now seen the standards set in their two games together, and with Jamie Hesketh, Nathan Southern and Will Mellor set to return to the squad , then they will have some difficult (but fortunate) decisions to make in the future.

In the meantime, if anyone knows of a goalkeeper who is looking to play in a very good Under 18's team, please contact Pete Wild or Gary Leeming.
